Summary
Rose Leaf Smith doesn't want to be a trainer. All she wants is to get away. Away from her mother who refuses to acknowledge her as her daughter. Away from the memories of her father, tainted by his passing. Away from the Oak family, who are helping her stage her getaway by granting her the certification to become a Pokémon Trainer. She plans to settle down in one of the bigger cities; maybe Cerulean or Saffron or Celadon. Lavender Town is also far away from Pallet Town, so she has options if she prefers the small-town life as well.
Her plans are, of course, interrupted by Team Rocket. She's dragged into a conspiracy far greater than she ever planned, and as truths come to light and leave more questions, she finds herself forced to grow as a Trainer and a person, making new friends and new enemies along the way.
There's an echo, beckoning her to the cave, and a Starmie that insists on traveling alongside her, and a feeling of a much higher calling beyond the Kanto region that terrifies her.
She just wanted to get away.

She wished to curse the fall then, but something about the pattern of the droplets stayed her tongue. They looked so small and fragile, like something that deserved protection. At the time, she was five months pregnant; her baby and her dress were both fed by her blood.
"I wish my baby would be born with eyes like that leaf and freckles like these specks of blood," she said to the crispy air.
The air didn't answer. But fate would, four months later.
