When Shawn's parents took off, he didn't end up staying at the Matthews, but instead, he was placed in the care of his Uncle Ralph. His uncle is abusive and forces Shawn to work crazy hours on top of his schoolwork. Turner can't help but be worried about the young boy and he tries to reach out to Shawn. Only Shawn doesn't trust strangers and it takes a great deal of work on Turner's part to get even a grain of trust from Shawn. Turner is still trying to get passed the barriers in his own head with realizing that he cares about Shawn in a greater sense than that of a teacher. Shawn has problems with living with his Uncle Ralph in the trailer park and he starts to act out more and more. The Mathews and Mr. Turner try to help Shawn get through this, but this time around Shawn just might be too far gone for them to help.
