Summary
It's the year 1890. Kiara Carrera is uprooted from her life in America by her parents and forced to move to England after wreaking havoc as a protester and activist. Still living a wealthy life, Kiara is determined to use her privilege for good by finding ways to sneak into town. There, she teaches children and helps serve meals to the less fortunate. When coming back from one of her excursions a couple of days before Christmas, she stumbles upon a man by the name of Rafe Cameron in the woods. He was robbed of his horse and needs help getting to her home because he has business to discuss with her father. When Rafe is asked to stay and celebrate the holidays with Kiara and her family, feelings blossom between them (much to Kiara’s chagrin). In the dead of night on Christmas Eve, Kiara learns Rafe’s true intentions and who, or what, he really is.

Summary
Up-and-coming horror author Kiara Carrera has made it big with her first book release, but she hits a wall when drafting her second one. Not wanting to lose the momentum she gained, she takes up an offer from her best friend, Sarah, to move across the country to Woodsboro, California. Kiara thinks the change of scenery and being near a friend will be good for her writer’s block, but she’s also interested in the town's dark past. Woodsboro is where a high schooler in the 90s donned a Halloween costume and almost ended the lives of his entire friend group, before being killed by one of the two survivors. Despite this widely accepted account of what happened that night, Kiara thinks the killer is still out there. As she begins playing detective, someone mimics the killer by wearing their original costume, now known as Ghostface. To Kiara’s horror, they have taken a special interest in her.

Summary
“My parents are happy I’m friends with Sarah,” she dips her hand back in, grazing the surface of the water, “they think she’s a positive influence. She’ll make me more of a Kook.”
It doesn’t slip past him the way Kook is said with scorn.
“You say that like it’s a death sentence,” Rafe’s eyes closes and he tilts his head back to rest on the bricks.
“Take a look around Rafe, that’s exactly what it is.”
He exhales the smoke in his lungs, “So you’d rather run away and hide?”
“Isn’t that exactly what you’re doing as well?”
or: Kiara Carrera acts out during her Kook Year and Rafe Cameron happens to be in her direct line of fire. She doesn't even want to think about the consequences of this, not yet.
