Angel’s face was moving down, backlit and unrecognizable, but coming closer, closer, closer until Buffy knew what he wanted. “Forever,” he said.
She surged forward at the promise and met his kiss with equal fervor, greedily cupping his jaw.
“That’s the whole point.” Spike’s cool fingertips danced beneath the hem of her shirt and dragged up her spine. “Couldn’t stay away if I tried.”
Buffy blinked the sunlight from her gaze, gripping Spike’s shoulders to steady herself. Even on the beach, he wore his big leather coat.
Who had she just kissed?

The bird’s greedy beak had gobbled up all the best bits of Dru’s boy and left her with nothing but a shell that hated her right back. And she hated him for that, too.
He wasn’t supposed to hate her. That wasn’t what he had been made for. Her boy had been made for love. It was all he’d ever been good for, and that much had been true long before Drusilla drank him down and made him new. But now he wouldn’t even do that right. He only pretended.
She hated his pretending most of all.

“Wait, you are saying. Joker can insta-kill literally everything in this palace. WITHOUT using SP at all?!” Ryuji clarified in astonishment because there is no way there isn’t a catch to this. “Without repercussion?!”
“Yes. That is exactly what I’m saying.”

They don't need to know anything about his past or where he came from, no matter what Morgana says about how it's not healthy to bottle up everything. He's finally found his reason to live. But as Futaba starts her first year at Shujin Academy, his past is going to wretch itself violently back into the light, and all he can do is try to protect everyone he loves from it. In the end, he'd never really escaped from it in the first place.

Ren's years end where they begin, on a train heading to Tokyo on April 9th.
He is not who he was, not quite. He's lived too many lives, died too many deaths, mourned too many loves. Yaldaboath twists the world each time the cycle starts anew and neither Trickster nor God could say what the world they first came from looks like anymore.
Ren starts the year over in a timeline doomed from the beginning and decides he's needs a rest. A short vacation before he skips ahead to the next year and the next chance to put an end to Yaldaboath once and for all.
Goro Akechi has other ideas.

Summary
He was the leader of the Phantom Thieves. He was Joker, the ace up their team's sleeve, and he had what felt like all of the eyes in Tokyo directly on him. If he could stay cool and clear headed with all of that weighing him down, then any crush shouldn't so much as phase him. He should be able to be way more suave about this.
But when Yusuke came into the picture, cool collection was a thing of the past and 'suave' was a laughably distant dream.
