Summary
Kris and Susie are best friends. In the span of a single day, the two had become inseparable. Kris had saved Susie's life, and Susie had saved Kris's. Jax thought there would be a cutscene. Something like the screen fading to black, music, credits… Some stupid voice of Caine from above would tell us that we passed the game and won (or lost?)
Nothing happened. Just… it became quiet. Or loud. He wasn’t even sure which of those. That obsessive circus background music disappeared, the one Jax was now hearing in his head just like that. However, rustling appeared. The ticking of a clock. Sounds… NPCs? For some reason there were more of them than usual.
Okay, new realistic prank. Now some new adventure will start? Where is Caine?

The gang is leaving the circus. Now they face the painful task of reintegrating into a world that kept moving on without them.

But Jax remained no matter how she blinked, how she pinched herself—her nails were digging crescent moons into her palms and still he was there before her, regarding her with wide eyes.
He laughed, though he wasn’t smiling. “Oh yeah?” He asked, “Yours, or mine?”

In a world where Jax was essentially some crooked ringmaster's doll, it was nice to have a doll of his own to "play" with. He shows up into Pomni's room, dominates her, and then he leaves. There's nothing more to it, so why does he feel frazzled when Pomni winds up choosing that crocodile NPC over him during an adventure? Jax doesn't know, but what he does know is that he's determined to lay down some consequences for her by the end of it.

Summary
Freedom was supposed to fix everything.
The nightmares. The anger. The feeling that reality might disappear if she looked away for too long.
Instead, Christine is stuck in a tiny apartment, working a normal job, and discovering that surviving something doesn't mean you know how to live afterward.
Felix, meanwhile, seems perfectly fine.
He laughs too much. Jokes too often. Acts like the circus is just another bad memory they can leave behind.
Christine hates him for it.
Then one drunken night forces them into the same space for longer than either of them can tolerate, and old resentments start turning into dangerous conversations.
Because the worst part of escaping isn't what they lost.
It's realizing they're the only people who truly understand what happened.
One terrible night changes absolutely nothing.
Or maybe it changes everything.
