Summary
It took all of Astarion’s composure to keep his jaw from hanging open as his eyes consumed the surfeit of interesting shapes he’d been given license to explore for the next three hours. The sheer corpulence of this man’s form was every portrait artist’s wet dream come true—and to a more personal degree, his.

Mystra gave him form.
Mystra made him functional.
And now, he had lost everything she had ever given him—form, function, and her favor.
Gale wasn't sure why he hadn’t simply cast the spell before Astarion entered his tent.
Perhaps a foolish part of him had been hopeful he wouldn’t need it this time—a gross miscalculation on his part. -

Summary
He wasn’t sure when he’d decided that what he needed more than anything was a companion. Someone to talk to. Even if that someone was something he’d created. And to that end, he’d been working tirelessly on an AI companion, carefully programmed to his specifications, built to understand him.
Sometimes, he truly rued the day he’d decided to give this thing a personality, but what good was a companion without one?
And so, AI-STAR-10N - or Astarion, as he’d decided to call him - was supposed to be his companion. It had been slow going; he’d carefully fed it bits of information over the last ten months, building up its memory of the world. History, science, philosophy - he’d left no stone unturned, trying to make sure his companion - his friend - would be worthy of conversing with.
Or : Gale flies too close to the sun.

Summary
Baldur's Gate has some peculiar laws surrounding humanoid creatures and their rights. It's something that has never sat right with Gale but he's never been in a position to do anything about it. He's Gale of Waterdeep, not Baldur's Gate, he has no sway there. But moving there has opened up a new avenue for him. Even if he can't change the whole legal system, he can at least help one unlucky person at a time. Definitely. Probably. Maybe. He hopes so anyway. And he'll start with the one who has been at the centre for the longest time and needs him the most.
