"Gwen."

"What about the-"
"Gwen." Merlin interrupted. Arthur nodded. At this point, he wasn't sure why he even bothered to ask. He was pretty certain his wife was going to knight Merlin any day now. He looked Merlin up and down for a few moments before accepting it all with a sigh.
"As long as you get my armor to me tomorrow...I don't care." He finally said, turning away. Merlin cleared his throat.
"Gwen gave me tomorrow off."
"For the love of God."

I hate that Gwen and Merlin's friendship kind of withered away in the later seasons so here's a oneshot about her and Merlin abusing her new royal powers because that's what happens when your best friend becomes queen.

Summary
After Morgana and Agravaine take the castle, Merlin convinces Arthur to run away for their own safety, to regroup and recover. Away from the castle, Arthur can't help but think Merlin's new dress suits her quite well while he dreams of starting over as a farmer in Ealdor with her by his side. Merlin, however, has other ideas. She has to get him back on the throne to complete his destiny.
Sometimes it takes a failure to learn a lesson. Or, Arthur learns he's been in love with Merlin the whole time.

“Gaius,” Merlin started to ask, a bit hesitantly, when he finally reached the tower, late that evening. “What all do you know about faeries?”
Gaius dropped a half-finished potion, turned several fascinating shades of red and pink before moving on to near-purple, and yelled at Merlin for being irreparably foolish for quite a long while before Merlin was able to get a word in edgewise and was allowed to tell him anything more about the afternoon.
