Mel finds herself wishing she could stay by the young man’s side, but she knows there’s no time. She starts to move, her eyes already on the water, when the sailor’s—Jayce’s—hand tightens ever so slightly around hers. Her gaze flits back to him. His eyes are half-open and unfocused, his lip trembling with the effort of trying to speak. When he does, he can only manage to grit out two words.
“W-wait…please...”
Mel almost smiles.
And then she disappears into the sea like she was never there, leaving her prince alone on the shore.
