Summary
Arching a brow, Nicholas pauses and then drifts after Vash, drawn in by the gravity of him and the silly, besotted smile on his face. Honestly, that's probably Nicholas' second mistake because he doesn't pay a lick of attention to the odd tension or sudden strange silence that makes the hair on the back of his neck prickle.
A stop over in a small town escalates into a bigger problem when a group of ruffians get it in their heads to go after the 60 Billion Double Dollar Man. Vash and Wolfwood make the best of it, all things considering.

“You say that every time,”the man mumbles, sorting through the envelopes pausing on a red one before separating it from the rest and sticking it into a separate pocket in his oversized, red, duster. “Did I happen to get a bigger package?”
“That’s all the mail, dear.”
“Ah, yes. I meant a person. I’m expecting the last piece of my crew today.”
Georgia’s eyes narrow and flick over to Wolfwood, he’d shaken a cigarette out of his dwindling pack as he watched the interaction go down. He steps forward, tapping the man on the shoulder, shoving his hand forward when the man turns to him.
"I'm Wolfwood, nice to meet you." Wolfwood sticks the cold cigarette between his lips, grinning around it when the man takes his hand. The leather glove he's wearing squeaks against Wolfwood's palm when he squeezes.
"Vash. What's your specialty?"
"Break horses. Put any pony under me and I'll break it."
A blond brow quirks. "Any pony?"
Wolfwood smirks around the filter of his smoke, lazily dragging his eyes down from straw gold hair to the long plain of Vash's throat.
"Any pony."

“My business is the pursuit of peace and love,” Vash says. Nicholas lets out a loud bray of laughter. “What?!"
Nicholas snickers, not even bothering to attempt politeness any longer. “Love and peace is a funny pursuit when you share a name with a man that’s shot so many bullets he’s earned sixty thousand Union dollars on his head."
Vash cocks his head at Nicholas, and his eyes wander down to the gun at Nicholas’ hip before flicking back upwards. “Ah, but Father,” he says piously, “I’m sure you know first-hand how the path of peace requires much of us all.”
Nicholas narrows his eyes and wishes for a cigar. Vash stares back with wide, innocent eyes. It’s infuriating; it’s delicious; it makes Nicholas want to prod at him until he finds what’s hidden underneath. Anybody could be fooled by that face, by that careful expression, by that deliberate and rehearsed body language, but Nicholas wasn’t anybody, and he wasn’t fooled.

Between heaven and hell lies a small town deep in the Texas desert. When a stranger blows in on the wind, it's up to Father Wolfwood to decide what to do about him.
