For my Mad Rat Dead fans: This is my attempt at growing the fandom. I Love MRD, and I want more people to enjoy its characters and music. Speaking of music -- you might want to check out the titles and creators I throw in. If you ever get bored, that is. Also, you don't need to know Persona5 to enjoy this! So please, sit back and enjoy the show.
For my Persona5 and Persona5Royal fans: P5R has been rotting in my skull for... over a year, at this point. I love it, flaws and all, and I want to connect the loose threads that could've led to so much more. You don't need to know Mad Rat Dead to enjoy this story -- just know that Maruki is very, very sorry. If anything seems like a re-cap of P5R, please just speed-read or straight-up skip that section.
And for my outside readers: I hope this leaves you entertained. Don't worry, you don't need to know much about either game -- but if you ever get interested, I'm not stopping you from checking them out.

Summary
It's been weeks since Jax abstracted. He's been confined to the big purple tent, devoid of any light, because darkness keeps him calm. The others visit when they can stand to, though it’s not often. Pomni visits every night.
She tells herself it's just to check on him, that they were friends, and friends do that sort of thing. But then she starts talking to Jax, or whatever is left of him, about everything and nothing all at once, and somewhere along the way she starts to notice things she can't explain. The way the creature goes still when she speaks. The way it tilts, almost imperceptibly, toward her voice.
He's abstracted, and this shouldn't be possible, she thinks. That is, until Pomni begins to do her research and understand what abstraction really means- what it takes from a person, and more importantly, what it leaves behind. She has a theory, and the window to act on it is closing fast.

Espella sits down and tells him everything: the loss of consciousness, the memories, the panic, the haziness, the missing periods of time. She tells him about her concerns, that perhaps there’s another Bell of Ruin situation happening, or that maybe somebody is trying to replicate the magic Labyrinthia once held, but all she can read from Layton's expression is a grimace.
"I thought to myself that it couldn’t be true, but there’s no other option," she says. "It has to be real magic this time! What was it that Mr Wright said to everyone? Once you’ve eliminated the impossible…”
“Whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth,” Layton finishes for her. “...But magic is impossible. We are all aware of that fact now.”
“But that’s the only thing that’s left, right? So it must be possible!"
“Espella.” Layton places his hands folded in his lap, but it’s less like a polite gesture and more like he’s bracing himself for something. “I fear that this… magic you are experiencing may not be magic at all, but rather, a trauma response.”
