Summary
Scrolling through the comments posted after the event, she was happy to see that most people agreed, enthusiastically voicing their support for the opening, extolling the benefits the garden space would bring to the local community. There was the expected handful of naysayers, of course, people who thought even the small grant provided by the city to get the project off the ground was still too much. It was a complete waste of money, according to one man. Another ranted about not wanting his tax dollars to support people who didn’t want to do anything to help themselves.
Forcing herself to ignore the negative comments, she kept scrolling, occasionally replying with her thanks to a particularly supportive constituent. She had almost gotten to the end when one comment in particular caught her eye. It wasn’t a criticism, but it wasn’t exactly a compliment, either. At least, not in the same way the others were.
Reading it again, Beth’s breath caught in her throat.
“Nice looking garden, Councilwoman. What fertilizer you using these days?”
