Detective C.C. Tinsley is stuck. The investigation into the local serial killer is going nowhere, and more often than not he finds himself drinking to avoid the stinging pain of failure. But did the Sandaime hear him? No, because the Sandaime wasn’t Minato-sensei and the old man never listened to him. And he went ahead with the brilliant idea of saddling him with his dead sensei’s son, Itachi’s little brother, and a kunoichi who was so much a cannon fodder that she had a literal target on her bright red dress.
He would not be blamed for the shitshow that was about to start.

There’s a pause after Shuichi finishes speaking wherein Kaito and Rantaro exchange an indecipherable look. When they look back at Shuichi, they’re both smiling, Rantaro’s eyes crinkled with fondness.
“Hey, Saihara-kun,” Rantaro prompts. “Why don’t you go check on Ouma-kun?”
“A-Ah? Me?” Shuichi can feel his neck warming for reasons he can’t put into words. “Why?”
“I just think you’d be the right person for it.” Rantaro adjusts the bangles on his wrist, still with that peaceful, unreadable smile on his face.
Kaito, in turn, claps Shuichi’s shoulder. “If you think something’s up, you should pursue it to the end, right? Let us know what’s going on later. It’s pretty weird for the dude to miss class.”
