Summary
Draco Malfoy is put into the Wizard Protection Program after a murder attempt during his sentence in Azkaban. Draco has aided the Ministry in taking down Death Eater activity from the inside but now it has grown too dangerous. His safe house and new identity lies with Hermione Granger, who is abroad in America working on a Muggle PhD in Magical gene expression. They both struggle to grow into their new identities and find themselves outside of grief. They have to decide how much of their old lives dictates their future, and if the other has a place in it.

Summary
There’s someone in the house.
Maddie freezes halfway down the stairs, her hand pressing flat to the wall for balance as she stutters a step.
Downstairs, the TV light flickers blue out of the living room and into the hallway, spreading over the floor and catching on a trail of bootprints leading in from the cracked-open front door.
Laughter from the TV breaks the quiet. Maddie follows the trail of bootprints down the hall and towards the kitchen.
The door was shut, she’s sure of it.
