When Odin requests the Avengers' presence on Asgard he orders a very reluctant, resentful Loki to do it instead, since Loki has a very unique knowledge of the secret paths between the Nine Realms. Unfortunately, Loki generally takes the ... scenic route between dimensions. So he has to guide six egotistical, volatile superheroes through the Nine Realms and all its otherworldly dangers, and somehow get them to Asgard alive.

Let's just say Thanos makes good on that promise when he captures Loki after tracking him down after the destruction of Asgard. However, unlike in IW, Loki doesn't have the Tesseract with him, so the events of IW don't happen.
Instead of killing him, the Mad Titan decides that the god might still be useful for his future plans, but he wants to make sure that he learns his lesson this time...The story has multiple endings. ["good", bad, and wò̸͉̆rş̵̛̗̹̣̼͎̘̆e̵̜̺̯̪̞̪͙͑͐]
[uh. I feel like i gotta warn y'all... this shit gets heavy and very dark in some of the endings. VERY graphic descriptions of torture, btw. you've been warned!]

Odin knew sitting on his throne to watch Loki in his cell was cowardly, that if he wanted answers he should go to Loki in person to ask, Loki was still his child... but how could he face his child after all that had happened.
How could he ask Loki why he had done the things he had done when all he wanted to ask was when Loki had stopped knowing Odin loved him more than the stars in the sky?

Odin is at a loss trying to understand why his son changed so drastically in the time he was gone, where the smug, grandstanding malice came from, and what could possibly be driving it. Loki gives them no clues, until, by pure chance, he overhears a conversation that changes everything. There's a creature in Loki's cell, all scorn and honeyed threats, and he has proof that Loki is innocent, the missing piece to the puzzle.

Summary
The Sanctuary. A fortress of torment that embraced death and promised agony. It was a haunted place - a corner that even darkness feared. It floated somewhere in a numb abyss. Like the grim ripper, its only purpose was to rob men of life. The very name, 'Thanos,' wavered in the air. It was a sour sort of word; heavy and dry.
Five years ago, The Sanctuary plucked out a lost soul from the void. The young man claimed to be a Prince of Asgard.This indeed was a delightful coincidence.
Thanos had always been at odds with Asgard. Long ago, Odin Borson created the Yggdrasill with the space stone. And with its creation, 'The Mad Titan' was separated from completing his end goal. Thanos intended to use Loki as a tool, but ironically, he ended up growing quite fond of the trickster. Loki is now a beloved child of Thanos. Gone was the prince of Asgard; found was The Oder's Assassin.
TLDR; Thanos brainwashes Loki, and now he doesn't remember Asgard.

Loki had always been very good at deciding what mattered.
It was a survival skill, honed young and sharpened often: choose the important thing, discard the rest, and keep moving. Pain rarely made the cut. Pain was common, expected, easily rationalised. Pain was something you endured quietly, because reacting to it only invited questions, and questions—historically—had never ended well.
So when the blade slid between his ribs, low and to the left, slipping past bone with an unpleasant intimacy, Loki noticed it only long enough to register that it would be inconvenient later.

Asgard is gone. The survivors are packed onto the Statesman, drifting between crises with nowhere permanent to land and far too many people depending on things holding together. Loki handles this the way he handles everything: efficiently, quietly, and with absolutely no regard for his own limits.It is, objectively, a terrible plan.
