“Married,” you gasp, arms clutching around his neck for fear of being dropped – or so you tell yourself.

Summary
Their story became one of myth and folklore. The story of a love cursed out of jealousy by the Devil himself. Cursed to remain forever separated.

Now, in the 21st century, in the darkness of Detroit, Adam once again searches for her. Creating music to draw her out. His cursed, undead soul yearns for hers. But should he see her again, will he run to her or from her? For the curse always finds a way. It cannot be outrun or evaded.
Unless, of course, it can be broken. After so long, does he dare to hope for such a thing?

Bruised and terrified, Credence Barebone has no memory of the crime he was witness to—which resulted in the deaths of his mother and sisters—and forms an attachment to his savior, Graves. After being discharged from the hospital, Credence moves in with the agent, and their bond grows stronger even as Percival’s investigation leads him to question Credence’s involvement in the increasing number of unsolved murders.

Summary
The Barebone family has a history. They are descendants of the Scourers, a rogue group of witches and wizards who began as bounty hunters and became willing to hunt their own kind when MACUSA was being founded.
Many of the Scourers were brought to justice by MACUSA and its legendary first twelve Aurors, including, of course, Gondulphus Graves. However, not all of them were. Some went underground, marrying No-Majs and disappearing into non-wizarding society. Mary Lou’s fervent belief in magic is a family business.
Ultimately, this means that there are two traditions, two approaches to magic in the Barebone family. The preacher is one who rallies others, works to expose the wizarding world and abhors magic in all its forms. The Scourer is the other, the weapon who forsakes their own soul and wields a dark and half-forgotten form of magic. Mary Lou tells Credence that his mother was a wicked and unnatural woman. His magical talent is recognized from the beginning, so who says he ends up a preacher?
