"When Shadow saw Sonic standing all bedraggled and barefoot in the kitchen, package of pasta in his hands, struggling to read the instructions, he couldn’t help but sigh fondly, another part of the tightness in his chest loosening (the shower had helped a small amount with that, but it hadn’t worked as well as just seeing Sonic again).
Shadow didn’t have the bandwidth for words right now, or for making much eye contact, but Sonic hadn’t seemed to mind (he never seemed to mind). And then Sonic had told him he loved him..."
OR
Sonic is tired after a long day of fighting badniks, and when he gets home, he finds out Shadow is tired from a long day, too, having been out on a solo GUN mission. They do their best to comfort each other, and help each other deal with the aftermath of their bad day, so they can finally get some rest and have a good night.
(In other words, Sonic and Shadow fight angst with the power of love and being sickeningly soft with each other)

Slowly, Shadow turned the doorknob and peeked his head in, almost immediately slamming it back shut. He inhaled sharply through his nose and broke the door handle with how hard he squeezed it.
Sonic's back faced him, leaning his forearms on the table as his ass jutted out. He was conversing with Commander Towers, laughing and smirking like he didn't just basically flash Shadow. He took another deep breath, desperately wishing the weird heat in his cheeks would go away.
It didn't.
Or: 5 times Shadow gets closer to figuring out his feelings because of Sonic's ass, and one time he finally realizes.

And the air is cool, the wind is slow; it's just strong enough to ruffle his fur nicely, rustle the grass so it makes a nice background noise for Sonic’s rambling. The hero lets out a chuckle mixed in with the words, and though Shadow doesn't know what was just said, he finds an involuntary smile of his own creeping up his face too. Annoying as it is, Sonic really does have a nice voice. And laugh.
And thighs.
(In which Shadow is sleep deprived, Sonic's voice is melodic, and I just wanted to write fluff)

“You know, you should smile more.”
Whipping around, Shadow suppressed the vicious urge to snarl. Those words, that insult, had mocked him from the very day he started working in the café. It was usually reserved for more older folk, that were as Rouge had claimed, probably just trying to joke around with him. Shadow did not find it amusing.
The voice’s owner stood in front of the counter, a hint of amusement glinting behind bright green eyes and a toothy grin which matched his cheeky expression. Biting his tongue to resist cursing out a customer, Shadow just curled his lip up, baring his sharp teeth in a malicious sneer.
“Better?”
The vibrant blue hedgehog was not dissuaded, instead, his cheeks puffed out as he spluttered with laughter. Shadow relented into a deep frowned.
“Man, you really need to work on your ‘smiling’.” He held his hands up to use air quotes on the last word, meeting the red stare again with gleaming green eyes.
Shadow decided he didn’t like this mobian.
