    Summary

The mystery comes to its conclusion before the Verax Leo in Marmoreal Market. Phainon is not, unlike some of his colleagues, in the habit of damaging the city’s statuary. But if striking with Dawnmaker will satisfy his curiosity, he is willing to risk Aglaea’s displeasure.
“My lord,” Verax Leo finally grumbles. “It concerns Kremnoan royalty.”
Phainon’s expression sharpens. “...Has something happened to Mydeimos?”
“No, Lord Phainon. Nothing like that,” The lion hesitates. “It’s... the princess.”

Phainon comes to learn that Okhema is obsessed with a drag queen named "Princess of Castrum Kremnos," an extravagantly dressed performer who spends her weekends reducing audiences to laughter with a parody of the real Crown Prince. The crowd thinks it is the ultimate comedy act, happily joking that the princess and prince have never been seen in the same room.

There is no such parody. Okhema thinks it sees a brilliant satire. Phainon thinks a mysterious performer has stolen the privilege of making fun of his rival. And Mydei is just trying to make sure no one notices that the prince and the princess share the exact same biceps.

    Summary

"Explain something to me," Kaveh says. "Your—uniform. Why?" He points a spoon at Alhaitham accusingly.

    "It's not a uniform."

    "Your clothes, then. WHY?"

"I can see you are attempting to be concise," Alhaitham says, "but in doing so you've forgotten to be coherent."

"I'm clearly asking for the rationale behind your everyday outfit," Kaveh says.

Alhaitham looks down at himself, studying with a bland expression the boots, the tight pants, the fabric at his hips, the shirt. Archons, the shirt. Kaveh can't get over it.

What's there to explain? says Alhaitham's face, like his shirt isn't showing off every indecent detail of his… his… everything. Kaveh swears his nipples fight to escape that leather bolero of his daily.

It takes Kaveh a while to get used to living with Alhaitham again.

    Summary

As soon as they make contact, Mydei is struck by the sense that something is wrong.

Not Phainon being so close - no, if anything, that feels right - but it is as if the world tilts and contracts around him. His ears pop and he feels off balance. Phainon says something beside him, but he can’t think straight; all Mydei feels is a surge of … of something. The need to run if only to feel the burn of it, the need to fight if only to get the tension out, the urge to grab Phainon, who is still trying to talk, and make him shut up for just a moment, and if he needs to give Phainon’s mouth something else to do, then Titans, he will, he swears he will -

“Mydei, focus,” Phainon says, so close that his warm breath fans Mydei’s face.
