“We can’t stay here forever.”
That's what Eddie had said, or what Waylon had assumed - had hoped - was an hallucination brought on by the events at Mount Massive Asylum for the Criminally Insane.
He'd seen Eddie die; had seen the lights dim in his pale, pale eyes and watched the blood drain from his body.
It was funny, but back there, in the crumbling Victorian halls of Mount Massive, ghosts had been the very furthest from Waylon’s mind. But here, in this broken shell of a house, with the wind howling outside and the dying embers casting a ghostly glow over the room, he found he could believe it.
But then, if Eddie was an hallucination, a ghost, then who had brought him out here?

Summary
It all happened when a famed researcher was at the end of his wits.
The world bore witness to a plague. It took the population by storm. Though not contagious, the infection spread indiscriminately across approximately ten percent of the populace. It ended as soon as it had started—the ten percent were kept under constant surveillance, but there appeared to be nothing to halt the rapid spreading of the virus through their bloodstream.
“Mr. Aventurine. Do you happen to be the vampire of rumors?”
Aventurine paused. Ratio expected him to burst into a fit of laughter and dismiss those rumors with a sensible explanation.
What he hadn’t expected was for the man to lean close, invade Ratio’s personal space, and ask, “If I say yes… what’s in it for me?”
And thus signaled the start to an incredibly unconventional partnership between a human doctor and a cunning vampire.
