Cady smiles a little at that, and it makes Regina get that fuzzy feeling that Cady always makes her feel. Even before the painkillers and the bus softened her up.
“Still. I should've talked to you. You needed your friends, and I was too much of a coward,” Cady continues.
Regina laughs. She knows she shouldn't since Cady sounds so guilty, but she can't help it. It's so full-bodied that it takes both of them off guard.
“Were we ever really friends?” she asks.
The surprised look on Cady's face makes her laugh again.
“God, you can be too sweet for your own good, you know that?”

Regina stands up abruptly and tucks a loose strand of hair behind her ear.
“You think I'm too much right now? You haven't seen anything yet.” Regina bends at the waist to say the rest so that only Janis can hear. “You’re going to want me dead by the end of the night.”
