Constrained to a hospital bed after taking a bullet to the shoulder, Leon is mind-numbingly bored. With nothing to occupy himself and no chance of Chris letting him DAMA, it's no wonder he answers the (probably spam) call he gets. Well, long story short, it's not spam. And he has no idea who Anabel is.
One month away from his release date from Raccoon City Penitentiary, Luis misdials. He thought he knew Anabel's number by heart after using it so much, but apparently not. Things turn out for the best, though, when he gets to chat with an interesting police officer who just so happens to have a thing for bad boys.

“Surgery?” A keen interest lit up his voice, the shift immediate and palpable. “Opioids or NSAIDs?”
“Both. Doctor said I was lucky to keep the arm.”
“Sledding accident?”
“I—what? No, of course not.”
Leon could practically hear him shrug. “You never know. What was it, then, cowboy? Did you fall off your horse?”
Leon tried to suppress an involuntary smile at remembering how Ashley had phrased it, repeating into the phone with mirth, “I tripped and fell on a bullet.”
“Impressive.”
“I try.”

However, the universe is known for not being kind to him. As he bumped into a handsome Spaniard while looking for Ashley. Leon found out that the same man used to work for Umbrella. Yet, even despite that and despite Leon’s better judgment, Leon finds himself growing attached to that charming smile and the affectionate Spanish pet names.

And, more than that, he knows that Luis is worth the effort, regardless of what others say.

“Let the smoke cool in your mouth.” Luis rasps as Leon takes another drag, “You’re doing so well.”
The words make something coil in Leon’s stomach. There’s nothing explicit about what they’re doing, but it feels more than intimate. He’s not sure what to do with his hands, but the last thing he wants to do is actually take the cigarette himself and spoil whatever this is.
Luis takes another step closer, adjusting his arm. His fingers brush Leon’s face, and Leon feels fire where their skin collides. Lips subtly parted, Luis looks at Leon with an intensity that Leon hasn’t seen on him before. They only break eye contact when Leon turns to release the smoke.
“How’s it feel?” Luis asks. His eyes are dark and hungry: pupils blown wide.
“Not so bad,” Leon gulps. His throat is a little dry, but he’s finding it hard to distinguish between the effects of the cigarette, and the effects of Luis. “I thought I would cough.”
“If you have a good teacher, you won’t cough.” Luis stubs the cigarette out on the metal ring of the barrel behind them. “A good smoke is like a good kiss,” he says, observing Leon’s reactions with care.
Leon’s voice cracks, “How so?”

Back in that cabin, anytime an infected grabbed Luis, the adrenaline that flooded Leon’s body felt different. It was no longer just his hero complex, it doesn’t feel like the protectiveness over Ashley… Whenever Luis is in danger, the sentinel in him wants to growl and shred the assailants to pieces. There’s something about the man that seems to directly affect his preternatural side – which doesn’t make any sense because Luis is a mundane. It shouldn’t matter that he’s making Leon go a little bit insane with his quips and smiles and the way he moves… He shouldn’t react like this.

His only choice now is reconnecting with Luis Serra, the Spanish man that was saved by a miracle. It's time to accept Ada and him had actually gone separate ways this time. It's time he learns to have time for himself. And perhaps, it might be time to try to love himself, and even someone else.
It's really just a straight up translation (with some added details) from the same work in Spanish. Personally, my favorite is the English one, since it has more detail.
