Izuku Midoriya always dreamed of becoming a superhero. Of fighting supervillains and saving people with a superpower to call his own. Except, the world he was born into was one devoid of superpowers. The Japan he lived in was not one of capes, masks and catchprases, but one of post-war chaos, collapsing economy and police struggling to maintain even vestiges of control over the cities in the wake of a raise in criminal activity and collapse in funding.
It was a dream that couldn't come to fruition. A dream born of escapism, desire to help others and a weak health that together with Bakugou Katsuki killed all of his potentially achievable dreams. Something that Izuku himself was aware of. It was a fantasy that made the world a bit more bearable as days, months and years passed in a blurry. Nothing more.
Everything changed when Izuku Midoriya awoke a genuine superpower. Dawn of Quirks has began, and with it, the age of supervillains and superheroes. As the society around him slowly collapses, Izuku will do his best to save as many people as he can. Despite the world of superheroes being way more complicated, dangerous and painful than he ever imagined.

As someone who went through years of childhood trauma and then years of mental health treatment, I wanted to explore the process of Steven actually working through stuff and originally planned for it to end right before the final SU episode, but then I began to expand in things that were happening to where it's essentially an alternate reality and never gets to the situation of that last episode.

Welcome back! This is Part Three of a Pokémon AU, so please read the other parts first!
After the disaster that happened after he returned home from his Journey, Izuku leaves Musutafu and its discrimination behind again. At least while he was arrested, Sinnoh Champion Cynthia finally asked his Mom out on a date. Now, he's setting out on new journey in a new region with his new step-mom there to support him! Although, maybe his time in the Sinnoh region won't be as relaxing as he would like with all different kinds of problems testing his resolve.
Because training to become an Aura Guardian wasn't difficult enough with spontaneously developing a crush on his pokémon partner, learning how to be an older brother, somehow getting so lost that Palkia is clearly conspiring against him, obsessively researching pokémon behaviors, waking up to strange shifting phenomenon, and stopping a poké-terrorist organization that wants to destroy reality.
Izuku just wanted a vacation and a training montage. Was that too much to ask?

After a long journey across Kanto, learning the ways of wild pokémon and Aura, Izuku doesn’t really consider himself human anymore. But, he’s finding out he needs to go back home and deal with their propaganda filled society once more. Because he found himself a pokémon partner, and the greenette needs to fill out proper paperwork to keep Hitoshi the Espurr safe in his care. And he needs a pokédex ID to do that. One that he should’ve had his entire life, instead of getting denied one.
At least the quirkless human-shaped trainer and quirked purple pokémon have each other on their journey back home and through the horrors of paperwork. And Izuku telling his family that he’s learned a lost magic martial art and wants to be the first Aura Guardian in centuries, if not millennia.
There’s no way that this will spiral into a disaster. No way at all!
(It will make so much more sense if you read part 1, The Ranger’s Curse first. And this is a poképhilia fanfic with Shindeku slowburn that turns into Dekubowl and Shinsoubowl. Hitoshi is a pokémon. Y’all have been warned.)

One day, De- Izuku just left to go on his shitty pokémon journey, leaving Katsuki behind. The explosive blonde doesn't know how to cope without the greenette somewhat involved in his life. He partially blames himself and discovers that he might have been a terrible fucking friend. Katsuki resolves to be a better person with a Heroic heart.
Sort of.
First, he needs to track down each and every bitch ass extra that dare hurt his nerd and make them regret it. Auntie approves. Petty revenge can be rather therapeutic, and can somehow lead to a bunch of convoluted shenanigans and legal loopholes pertaining to vigilantism.
In other words, Auntie Inko is a badass, and Katsuki learns to be a better person through the Midoriya tradition of borderline yandere bullshit.
(Yes, this is part of a series. Technically, The Ranger's Curse is Part 1 to the "main plot" of this AU. Bomberanian is a side story that is Bakugou's pov during Izuku's own shenanigan filled journey. While this can be read as a stand alone, I recommend you check Ranger's Curse to get a better understanding of the AU, since Katsuki doesn't embellish on world building in his pov.)

Summary
Pokémon adore Izuku, but pokéballs seem to hate the teen. And pokémon always get skittish whenever he hold one around them. He learns that trying to catch one would likely never work. He's just quirkless, worthless, partnerless Deku to the whole world. Having the Ranger's Curse is just the cherry on top, the inability to capture any pokémon, but the blessing of being able to befriend nearly all of the sentient creatures.
It's just too much one day when his classmates push him too far. He decided to run away from it all into the wilderness to escape the torture and discrimination that follows him. Hopefully, he'll manage to survive his impromptu sprint into the wilds in order to have a proper journey of his own: pokémon partner or not.
