“I don’t know how I feel either,” Hyunsu said after a pause. “The thing is, I may remember what it was like to be human, but I know I’m not human. Not anymore. My whole existence has changed, including the way I feel things. I do...care...about you. I know that much. And I wanted to kiss you. But I don’t know yet if it’s enough for me to call it love.” He touched Eunhyuk’s cheek gently. “Is that okay?”
Eunhyuk closed his eyes. Was it okay? He leaned into Hyunsu’s touch—warm, like he’d said, even though he wasn’t supposed to feel warm. Comforting, even though he wasn’t human, reassuring Eunhyuk that they could be the same, that Eunhyuk might cease to be human but that didn’t mean he would be monster. That Eunhyuk might change, and he didn’t know if there would be enough left of him to love, but maybe he could still feel something called care.
It quieted the voices in his head, for just a bit.

Hyun-su has been on heat suppressants for years, even though the only heats he'd been having, much like any omega his age, were pup heats. So when his heat strikes after he runs out of suppressants, and it's a real one, his biology throws a wrench in his newfound plans of surviving until the others don't need him: His heat is lethal if he doesn't mate. He's convinced to get help, but that has some lasting side effects.
