Summary
“I wouldn’t say ‘friends,’ exactly.” was Kaveh’s usual answer when asked of his relationship with the current Acting Grand Sage, Alhaitham. In fact, he had no idea how to define their relationship―they weren’t friends, they were hardly colleagues, and he’d be damned if he let anyone find out he stayed in that man's house.
As their strenuous relationship begins shifting from bickering roommates to something more intimate, that very relationship becomes all the more ill-defined...
I.e. Kaveh is a terrible drunk and Alhaitham sucks at communication.

Al-Haitham stares back. Nahida was one of the two people he could not read consistently.
Finally, she says, her words hanging in the air with an ominous weight, “He is dreaming. And he is falling deeper and deeper.
or, where Al-Haitham delves through his and Kaveh's dreams and memories to bring him home again.

Summary
Alhaitham isn’t wrong, the wisest course of action is to stay calm.
“Fine just, try not to move so much," Kaveh relents if only a little, closing his eyes and steadying his thoughts.
"I'll do my best," Alhaitham replies, although his hands certainly don't listen.

Summary
"The world moved on, but not for Alhaitham.
It got to the point where it wasn't like he was purposefully waiting, but the years passed and buried him along with his feelings. It was more like he couldn't grasp the idea that the world could go on without Kaveh, and everything just stopped making any sense until the day they would meet again."
Where Kaveh falls into some ruins for a few days, and returns to find out that years have passed.
Or,
Wangxian-inspired Alhaitham/Kaveh.
