Spock tends the bar. Jim starts the fights. At the end of the night, they end up in bed. It's not a bad life. It just isn't destiny.
Starfleet Academy is demanding, even for a Vulcan. Joining Roger Korby's secretive project only makes it more so. Still, Spock would be coping fine--if only Jim would speak to him.

It felt entirely natural, like slipping into a role predestined. Perhaps it was—the Other had been his Jim's first officer, too, after all.

Summary
Once the glow of the cottage fades and the boys have to head back to the real world, they have to start the long difficult year being separated before Ilya signs with Ottawa. Or at least that was the plan, until Ilya opened his mouth and accidentally got himself traded to Montreal. But it’s fine, just one year for Ilya in Montreal and then their 10 year plan is back on track… Right?
Through their year on the same team, Ilya helps Shane come to terms with the fact that his team kinda sucks, Hayden gets chirped into oblivion but still realizes that maybe Ilya Rozanov isn’t nearly as bad of a guy as he thought, and Hollanov come to terms with a new question they didn’t expect to ask.
Now that they’ve gotten a taste of living together and being on the same team, how are they ever going to give it up?

That intimacy is then leaked to the world, when Rose Landry’s stalker hacks Shane’s phone and posts a recording of their Skype call. Ilya is still in Russia, Shane is panicked as the man he loves and the career he has fought for both threaten to slip from his grasp. Ilya is fleeing for his life, and should be more afraid. Once again, they are scrutinized in the public eye while being the only two people alive who understand what the other is going through. They were alone at the top, and now they have to fall together
