At his wits end from feeling like a burden to his friends, he comes up with a daring idea. Maybe if someone slept alongside him, he could manage a full night without the magical sleeping aids he's come to rely on. Problem is, he doesn't want to ask his girlfriend to do it because she always deals with his mental breakdowns. Dumping yet another on her would be unfair.
So, he goes out on a limb and asks their team leader Riley for a favor.
Surely a whole night lying inches apart from his closest friend won't awaken anything in him and everything will work out.

Yes, there were many failings in their upbringing of the Force's son, and Mace would not see those mistakes repeated. It would be his very first step in undoing the web Palpatine had spun over the galaxy: robbing him of his future apprentice before the Sith even knew it was an option.
Anakin Skywalker would be brought up right, under his tutelage, instead of by a grieving, freshly knighted Kenobi who was in no position to fill the role they so cruelly foisted upon him in the wake of his Master's death. He would personally give him the proper upbringing he deserved.
Of course, what Mace Windu didn't know was that over half the people in the room were thinking the same thing.
Or, every Jedi Master who could have possibly known Anakin turned into Vader time traveled to right before Anakin's test in Phantom Menace and fight to become his master, each thinking they are the only one who can avert galactic destruction.

Oh, Ma’Eywa…what did they do to you?” The creature called out sadly, water blowing out from the top of their head as it shook back and forth, backing away as Neteyam shushed it, hands stretched out needlessly. “Hey, hey, it’s okay. I won’t hurt you, I promise.”
The creature backed up more, sliding further into the water to reveal the top of its head, something light blue in color finally being revealed to Neteyam, his eyes widening as he locked onto the still body of a Na’vi with wounds littering their body.
Neteyam ran into the sea, brushing a hand over the creature's roughened skin as a warning before bracing and jumping up, kneeling by the foreign Na’vi and sighing with relief when he could hear their breaths, slow and rough though they may be.
