Summary
Marika stared at the door, warring with herself. The rational part of her brain said she should go home, find the rest of her suppressants, and sleep the heat off. The irrational, hormone-laden part of her screamed at her to race after Cass.
The two of them had been inseparable, once. Back in their college days, when Marika was studying finance and Cass was bouncing between majors, unable to decide on what she wanted. She used to joke that the only thing she was sure about was Marika. And then her family had relocated, moving North to another small town. She’d resisted at first, but eventually had to join them when her father, the pack Alpha, had fallen sick. They’d kept up with each other over the phone at first, but Cass’s replies had dried up several months earlier. Marika was sure she would never recover from that heartbreak, and now the Alpha was back, here, in the flesh.
And she was letting her get away!

The ocean breeze was warm, the water glittered like turquoise, and the villa was so quiet Rumi could hear the waves lapping the stilts beneath them.
