Summary
He’s in his Red Robin uniform, and the sight of it brings his most recent memories into stark focus. He remembers the magician Nightwing and himself had been called in to help Batman and Robin apprehend. He remembers the snarl on the man’s face as he’d flung brightly colored spells around at random, equal parts furious and desperate after Robin had successfully relocated the hostage. He remembers a deep blue spell heading towards Nightwing’s unprotected back.
He remembers stepping into the line of fire.

Summary
“Simon?” Grace tries out the name, the syllables rolling of his tongue. To his surprise, Simon looks up. He looks scared and confused, regardless of how harsh his bark may come off or unnatural his eyes are. Grace longs to help him.
“Can you c’mere, please? So I can show you proof I’m not lying to you?” Grace asks with a new wave of patience. Simon looks away and doesn’t move, choosing to glare at the wall.
“I don’t bite,” Grace reassures.
“What if I do?” Simon warns, tone too soft to be threatening.
Grace sits down with a grunt, crisscrossed on the floor from where he stood with the laptop settled on his lap.
“Then that’s a risk I’ll just have to take.”

Ryland Grace has been living happily on Erid the past year, or so he believes. He loves his comforts and small wins of his everyday, but when he’s alone it feels as though something’s missing.
Maybe this hard around the edges and mysterious stranger, the only human he’s made contact with in years, will become a friend.
Maybe something more, as his foolish soft heart always holds onto hope.

When Grace gets seemingly teleported by means unknown into the SM-13 right as it was nearing The Light, both Simon and Grace have no idea what is happening. Grace knows he was supposed to be in his house on Erid, Simon knows this new guy cannot possibly be a hallucination, and Ava, upon hearing Grace ramble about theories for how he got there, knows that new guy is Smart. Could-Secure-Our-Survival Smart.
