Work Text:
The card laying innocently on Bruce's desk is a surprise.
The blue origami crane brushed over with glitter is expected, and Bruce is already absentmindedly clearing off a spot on his desk for it to stand proudly with the others he's gotten over the years. The roughed up copy of brown girl dreaming is also expected, and he looks forward to reading over Jason's notes in the margins as he reads it. Even the robot-patterned tie is expected because Tim thinks the solid colored ones are too basic and isn't shy about telling him so.
But Damian. Damian has lived in the Manor for about three years now, and not once has he given Bruce a Father's Day present.
Bruce picks up the card gently, careful not to crease it. On the front in large, neat letters are the words "Father's Day". In blue marker, squeezed in the space between the top of the page and the first word is a hastily scribbled "happy" in Dick's handwriting.
Inside the card is where things get interesting.
On the left side is a short note, which reads: Father, I have been informed that today is meant to be spent celebrating you. Though Drake has attempted to correct me and say it wasn't just you but all fathers, I am sure he is wrong. When I am celebrated, you make sure to tell me what I did that warranted the celebrating, so on the right side I have indicated what you've done well, and what you can improve on. It has been a pleasure to have you in my home, and I look forward to seeing you at breakfast tomorrow morning. -Damian
God help him. His youngest child gave him a report card for Father's Day.
Bruce barely manages to swallow down chuckles; instead he settles back into his chair, and begins to read.
