Vi wanted to kill them. All of them. Wanted to go back inside and paint the walls red for daring to touch her, to frighten her, to make her feel small and powerless and alone.
Instead, she reached up and cupped Caitlyn's face in her hands.
Caitlyn's breath caught. Her eyes finally lifted to Vi's, wide and wet in the moonlight.

“Caitlyn,” Vi says slowly, it’s the first time Caitlyn’s heard Vi say her name. She could grow used to it, though she’ll likely never have the chance. “You and I are night and day, land and sea, oil and water. I’d say we have nothing in common.”
“I think if you really believed that you wouldn’t be here right now,” Caitlyn points out. “You would have killed me and been long gone.”
