Summary
“If this is an attempt to attract your errant twin’s attention, I will not tolerate such foolhardiness.” Efforts to retrieve the second Figarland son ceased years ago, when Shanks himself briefly attacked Saint Garling in defense of some other whelp the Roger Pirates kept aboard their ship. Shamrock has never been given all the details, but suffice to say, his brother suitably frustrated their father to the point that the man grows cold and furious any time his renegade child is mentioned.
Which means that this discussion has moved from unstable ground to the narrowest sliver of already-cracked ice.
But.
(In the deepest corner of his heart, Shamrock has never wanted anything besides the chance to bring his brother home.)

Perhaps observing him sitting on the deck, clutching at his skull, is enough to reassure the little boy that Brook is no threat. He cautiously clambers aboard, sword clutched in one hand, and leans forward to give Brook’s nearest foot a poke with the tip of his blade. The sheer absurdity of it should be enough to make anyone laugh, but the skeleton manages to restrain himself. “You- are you dead?”
“In a sense, yes! But also technically, no! Yohohoho!” Well, at least he restrained himself momentarily. With no hat to doff, Brook settles for sweeping his arms about and bowing from his seated position. “Humming Brook, last remaining member of the Rumbar Pirates, at your service!”
The boy’s eyes grow very wide. He stares at Brook for a long moment, before glancing about the rather tattered ship, and seems to come to something of a decision. “If you’re a pirate, I should arrest you.” Ah. That does not sound promising. “But... If I rescue you instead, that means you owe me a debt?”
Judging by his immediate grimace, the child didn’t mean for that to come out as a question.

He doesn't register anything more than God's Knight, reaching before he draws his sword and hits the Knight with all the Haki he can muster. She recoils, screaming in pain, and drops whatever she was holding in one hand. Roger catches it.
Oh shit. That's a baby.
He turns to see the frightened shape that he originally caught his attention, and finds himself looking at a young Marine cadet, bleeding heavily from one shoulder and curled around a second baby, obviously twin to the one now held haphazardly in Roger's arms.

And yet, no one else seems to be aware of this fact.
Several times now, someone has stopped by with a stack of papers for him to look over, and returned for the reviewed notes and approved forms without so much as a raised brow. When Koala or Hack swing through, they bring snacks; the nurses assigned to this section of their medical wing never chastise Dragon, never ask him to depart, they hardly acknowledge his presence in the chair at all other than a quick nod or pat on the shoulder once their tasks are finished.
He keeps telling himself, just a few minutes more, and then he must return to his office, to the work he’s been dedicated to for over thirty years now.
He can’t linger.
