The worst and best and most dangerous part was when insomnia started to feel like holy revelation. When his eyes unfocused and the tiny, malevolent lives under the microscope swam into new patterns, trying consciously, it almost seemed, he was almost certain, to show him something.
And he leaned closer, and it had to be dangerous to be so breathlessly receptive to anything the Sand Pest might tell him. To push himself that way, when nearly everyone he’d met in the town had told him that spelled a quick death in September.
He might have been starving, or aging, at triple speed at that moment. Withering away like a fairytale’s unlucky mark while the microbes whispered to him.

ART said, more cautiously than I was used to from it, This is more akin to physical touch than what you usually find tolerable.
I knew that, but I didn’t like thinking about it. It was fine.
ART took me at my word for it, and having it squish me became part of the things we did when I was anxious or plagued by stress toxins in my system. Sometimes I asked it to do it even when I was feeling okay. It was a nice feeling. At the time I thought of it as comfortable and relaxing. Without someone physically present touching me, it registered more like the pressure of being underwater, and that just didn’t repulse me like touching skin did.
It’s true that it was relaxing, but the reason I liked it so much was secretly that it felt good. I hadn’t even admitted it to myself at the time, but I kept asking ART to squeeze me, and eventually things escalated.

He pauses on a particularly harrowing frame. A tear has completed its path down Roman’s nose, and is suspended milliseconds before it hits his lapel. His arms are in front of his face, like he’s bracing for impact. Jeryd settles himself on his couch, screenshotting the frame for future reference. He usually likes Roman with bite, or at least a little resistance, but he can make do with this. Pain is pain, he surmises. He hits play again, leaning back into the cushions, and taking himself out of his boxers.

Martin pushes himself to his elbows with a quiet grunt and Jon stares up at him in slack-mouthed wonder. Martin is wild-eyed, wild-haired radiance. A tentative grin splits his flushed, handsome face, sweaty curls sticking to his temples. “Alright?” he asks, and Jon nods, awestruck and mute. Broad fingers dig into Jon’s hair, a thumb rubbing over his orbital bone. Jon realises he has folded his hands over his chest and is lying there, still and ecstatic, underneath his lover’s body like the statue of a catholic saint.
“What do you want?” Martin asks.
“I—I don’t know.” Jon’s voice is rough and halting. “I haven’t done any—anything like this since my first year of Uni, and I never felt—” Never felt safe? Seen? In love?
Jon exhales with a wince. “Sorry.”
“Okay, you’ve got to stop apologising,” Martin says, voice cracking, and smiles, and anoints Jon’s forehead with a tender, shaky kiss.

Jon has a (mortifying) fit of libido. For once, he decides to not take care of it himself. Martin is happy (Excited? Extremely enthusiastic?) to help.

It just slips his mind, and hums as he wanders back through the Xhorhaus, past the noisy partying room, filled with folks too enthralled with some sort of planning to help with dishwashing, and up familiar stone stairs, to his room.
That’s alright, he thinks, and lights an incense cone.
He sits, and he breathes.
Lets the distant laughing, the distant voices, turn to nothing.
