Summary
Luthen makes a disbelieving noise. “The only suitable place to be,” he begins, “Is here in bed.”
“I woke this time every day in the priesthood,” Elys says.
“And are you more virtuous for it?”
Rolling his eyes, Elys says, “I'm used to it.”
Luthen nips at his earlobe, just a bit too hard. “You are not a priest anymore, wyttin,” he murmurs. His hand strokes at the skin of Elys’ chest, the callused pad of his thumb rolling over a nipple. Elys bites at the inside of his cheek. “There's no priory bell to roust you, nor a priest to chase you from your bed.”
“You're a bad influence.” Elys voice is rough.

Summary
Without taking his eyes off Elys, Luthen lifts the glass to his mouth. It's good brandy. Elys, in turn, watches him, his head tipped to the side as if awaiting a verdict. Luthen sinks further into the chair. His finger taps against the rim of the glass, a soft clink of nail against crystal. “Am I really such a brute?”
Elys' smile widens a fraction. He turns back to the cabinet where his own glass waits. "Is that really an answer you want?"
"I asked, so I must."
Elys huffs. "Lots of people ask questions they don't want answers to." He turns, leaning his weight against the cabinet. The glass is cradled in his hand, his thumb tracing the rim as he regards Luthen. Then he says, "You're no more a brute than I am a boy."
Despite himself, Luthen finds himself grinning. "You said that didn't bother you."
Elys shrugs. He brings his glass to his mouth. "I don't find your brutish ways disagreeable," he says. "I might even like them."

Summary
“Ehmishin,” Stark says again. The word sounds wrong in his mouth, too heavy on the consonants. “Little mouse. Why?”
For the first time since the watch began, Luthen shifts; he stretches one leg, then the other, then leans back against the wall and closes his eyes. “My parents died when I was a boy. I went to live with my uncle. My father's brother; a foul man. Drank too much.”
That's the short of it, anyway. The hair on the back of Luthen’s neck prickles as he immerses himself in memories long left untouched.
The faces of his parents have gone hazy with time. All Luthen can clearly recall is the shape of his mother's smile; the touch of her hand, calluses from her weapons as she had cupped his cheek. She had been a hunter. His father, an artisan. Luthen was too young to remember much more than that when they had both been struck by the fevers during one particularly harsh winter.

“You fought well.”
Elys blinks. He shoots a look to his right where Luthen is treading beside him, looking straight ahead. Elys waits, but no snide remark or clever insult follows. His eyebrows raise. Finally, Luthen glances at him.
“Beg pardon,” Elys says. He looks down the tunnel, though there's nothing to see beyond the little bubble of weak light given off by Elys’ lighter but mildewy bricks. Water sloshes around their boots as they walk. With their luck, this tunnel leads right into the river Westing. At least the water will wash away most of the abomination’s blood. “I just thought you had paid me a genuine compliment. I thought perhaps my hearing was going.”

Summary
It's irony, she decides, that her vet husband is the dead one and his lounge singer wife is the one who makes it out of the vault into what remains of the world. A cosmic joke. The universe kicking her while she's down. Then again, Vera doesn't think she's that special. There's not much of a place for her in the wasteland anymore. God only knows how far she's willing to go to prove that she can make one.

I wrote most of this when I was 18 and I kind of hate it now 😅 I'm leaving it up for posterity and some of it could still be considered canon to her story, but this is all very old, and Vera's character and backstory has changed a bit since then.- Words:

“Why do you want to go there?” Charon asks, leaning forward. There’s nothing that place can potentially tell her about his contract that he can’t. He doubts the records of a two-century old base will be able to tell her more about the redacted aspects of his contract than he can, which is, admittedly, very little.
He’d rather her just say what she wants to know. If she wants something specific, she can just tell him to do it. If he can’t, or won’t, or doesn’t want to— he’ll tell her.
She looks at him funny. Like he should already know this. “Charon,” she says, “I’m going to break your contract.”

Somehow, even back then, there was a rule of two.
For Ben Kenobi, getting up each day is difficult enough, nevermind facing the past. He has one singular goal left to him: to be a guardian. A very distant guardian. Between the echoing emptiness of his cave and the war-torn memories that haunt him, he really just wants to be left alone.
Too bad for him that sleep-deprived sith lords aren't likely to take no for an answer.
