    “I’m fine.”

Will looked him over once, very obviously. His eyes lingered on Nico’s shoulder, still swollen and bandaged poorly from the Lyceon attack. “Three days, Di Angelo.”

    Nico stared. “Excuse me?”

    “You heard me.”

“I am not staying in the infirmary for three days.”

Will tilted his head. “Your shoulder is infected, your hands are fading from shadow-travelling too much, you haven’t been eating properly, and your iron levels are so bad I’m genuinely offended on behalf of your bloodstream. So, yes. Three days.”

    “You can’t keep me here.”

    “I absolutely can.”

    “That sounds illegal.”

“That sounds like something you can complain about when you can stand on your own.”

    -

Nico di Angelo survives Tartarus, a war, being kidnapped, and dragging a 40ft statue across the world.

He does not survive Will Solace with a clipboard.

"I … I don't get what I’m meant to do. I just throw my food into the fire and ... talk?" James, a son of Hermes asked -- Percy could recognise those blue eyes and elfish facial features anywhere.

Percy grinned, "Yeah, that's pretty much it."

James hesitated before looking down at his feet, "But ... Hermes has a lot of children more powerful and more popular than me. What would I even ask him for? It's not like he cares."

Maybe it was because Percy was reminded of that promise he wrangled from the gods at age sixteen, but one moment he was looking at the younger camper, and the next he was throwing some of his food into the fire and asking Poseidon for some Disneyland tickets very, very loudly.

But even though he wasn't quite sure how it happened, the small, shocked laugh that James let out made it worth it.

    Or

Percy sees that some of the newer campers don't feel 100% comfortable with requesting stuff from their godly parents, so he decides to rectify that the only way he knows how -- dramatically.

“Just be a kid,” Annabeth muttered to herself as she dragged Bobby through the crowds of Fantasyland by his small, sweating hand. “Just be a kid, he said.”

“Annabeth, who are you talking to?” Bobby asked sweetly, his other hand holding a lollipop bigger than his head. “Are we almost to Ariel?”

    “Gods, I hope so."

"Percy mumbled a bit in his sleep and turned toward the back of the couch, jarring the bag of stale marshmallows he and Sally had been snacking on. A few fell out, and Sally gently reached over to stuff them back in the bag.

Then she stopped. She stopped and studied one of the marshmallows, the sugary residue leaving her hand sticky as she gripped it too tightly. Without another thought, Sally tossed the marshmallow into the waiting flames before her.

Thank you, she thought. Thank you, she prayed. Her clean hand ran slowly through Percy’s hair, brushing the golden curls she’d always loved so much. Thank you for my son."

    ***

Sally Jackson isn't a religious person. She finds herself praying anyway.

“I suppose I should have expected to see you here,” Athena finally says, when there are only a few feet left between them.

Poseidon tilts his head thoughtfully, and holds up his free hand as though in truce. “It seemed most appropriate.” Athena’s gray eyes bore into the amphora in his arms. It’s beautifully and intricately made, depicting the triumphs of a life well lived.

    A hero’s life.

“I thought you would return him to the sea.”

    ***

Poseidon and Athena meet once again on the Acropolis for a different type of enounter.
