Summary
“Will arrive at Erid in three months. Rocky get smartest Eridians to make food for human grace and help alien wake up.” Rocky says with a little more hope and incline in his voice, causing the edge of my lips to curl upwards slightly.
Rocky always does his best to say what he thinks I need to hear, and, for the most part, he isn't too far from the mark.
“Yeah…Everything will be okay” I respond, and hope that it's true.

Grace and Rocky have made it through a bulk of their trip to Erid. In their travels, the two discover a man in the middle of dead space- tethered to nothing, with no oxygen tank and yet alive all the same.
Simon has been in a coma on the Hail Mary for three months now, and Grace is trying to stay sane.

Simon focused on the view. So many stars. They were beautiful, and he was happy they'd be the last thing he'd see.
"I'm ready." Simon whispered into the still air. The combing stopped, and Simon mourned the loss immediately.
"You can kill me now."

Summary
"So he's really paralyzed?" Simon asks.
"Oh? Uh, yeah." Grace turns back to Rocky's sleeping form and gestures broadly at him.
Rocky is curled at the bottom of his tunnel, legs at his sides, body resting on the ground.
Simon nods, looking uncomfortable. "So he won't interrupt."
"Nah, he can't, he's– huh?" Grace fumbles for his glasses in earnest now. His heart rate picks up, but he's sort of hoping he's wildly misinterpreting what he just heard.
"Sit back down." Simon growls as Grace goes to stand up.
Slowly, Grace sits back down on the floor. He looks Simon over again and realizes, with a panicked flutter in his stomach that quickly spreads through his limbs like ice water, that Simon is holding a razor blade.

Grace & Rocky decide to go check out an SOS call. It could have gone better. (Trust me, eventual codependent friendship all around.)

Summary
Grace starts feeling suspicious and like he's being left out and kept in the dark by the Eridians, who start building a new biodome right next to his. He could never guess what the "surprise" the Eridians keep mentioning actually is, though.
AKA The Eridians introducing Grace and Simon like zoos introduce two animals of the same species - slowly but surely.
