Summary
Eddie is working hard on figuring himself out, getting a life, and also reestablishing contact with Buck after worrying about them drifting apart and their friendship changing. Realizing that sometimes people misunderstand his relationship with Buck should not be the shock it is. Also, if Chris could stop launching verbal sneak attacks on him, he'd appreciate it.
Meanwhile, Buck's learning to parent a toddler while not at all being insecure about something said by one Margaret Buckley. He's just studiously avoiding the word 'Parent' like the plague, and otherwise doing his damn best.
or
If Buck had a nickel for every time someone left him their kid in their will without his knowledge–well, he’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it’s happened twice now.

When Christopher calls his grandparents after seeing his father with a copy of his mother, he was hoping for a few weeks of peace in El Paso. What he didn't expect was for his grandparents to sue his father for custody. When his father clearly doesn't want him and doesn't show up in court, Chris does the only thing he can. He calls his Buck. Buck has never let him down before.

In short, like one phone call brings chaos, unnamed feelings and old trauma to the life of the Buckey-Diaz family.

"Come on, let's get you out of here. We should try to get you cleaned up."
"You're still going to make me go to this thing?" Eddie whines, deeply offended.
"You didn't think you could get out of it that easily, did you? It's for the kids, Eddie!" Buck exclaims, continuing to drag Eddie along.
Eddie wonders, suddenly, if he could convince a doctor to hold him overnight for observation.
On the way out they see Athena by the front doors of the hospital. "Officer, I'm being kidnapped!" Eddie calls, with false urgency. The officer she's talking to turns to look at them sharply and Athena sighs and rolls her eyes, waving the other man off.
"You can ignore Firefighter Diaz. Trust me, he's exactly where he wants to be."
Eddie looks at Athena with an expression of outright betrayal, she's amused but having none of it—Because, yeah. Eddie is exactly where he wants to be.

"Well, you know… What we've been talking around for, what, eight months?" she tried to get him to open up.
"What even…? Hen, look, I was just stabbed. You have my literal blood in your hands. I would really appreciate it if you told me whatever the hell you mean straight on."
"Alright, jeez. I was going to let you tell me, but if you want me to do it… Can we finally talk about you… you know… being gay and in love with Buck?"
Eddie's head snapped up at that, eyes open as wide as saucers.
"Huh? Wha- I'm sorry what did you just say?" Eddie shrieked.
Or: Five times someone assumed Buck and Eddie were in love to Eddie's face, and the one time Eddie did.

Summary
Eddie had seen Buck devastated before, more times than he'd like to count. But nothing compared to watching Buck realise that his son might be dead. And it was all his fault.
Or: After Theo disappears during a mall takeover, Eddie tears the building apart trying to bring Buck’s son home. A terrifying day that finally forces Buck and Eddie to confront the fact that they’ve already built a family together, with Christopher and Theo at the centre of it.
