The first son of the Henituse Family, Cale Henituse, is also many things: irreverent, lazy, chaotic, and, least noticeably, not an idiot. It’s not like he wanted the Henituse territory management job to begin with, and Heir Basen is way better at numbers than he is. Even if sometimes he might want someone to see him for who he is, and not for the reputation he’s sacrificed for his family.
Even if that’s an infuriating princess he’s stuck in contract betrothal with.

Summary
Cale Henituse was similar to himself-Kim Rok Soo-in an assortment of things, but his reactions were not of someone who had given in. No, they were of someone clinging to a ledge between giving in and fighting back. The ledge was more dangerous than the ground that built it.
Rok Soo could not let this punk who reminded him of himself self-destruct and become trash.
He also couldn’t just ignore the punk who has dreams of the future.
Rok Soo smiles slightly, but Cale thinks it looked quite sad. The older boy removes his hand and extends it, “Punk, you and I seem to be oddities in this world. Let’s ensure ourselves peaceful lives,”

There are any number of things that Lan Xichen might be about to say. He might be about to say, “A-Yao, will you cook breakfast while I bathe in the river?” But then, there is a gravity to his tone, and a flush on his cheeks. So perhaps it will be, “A-Yao, will you do that thing with your tongue?” Or even more thrillingly, “A-Yao, will you teach me how to do that thing with your tongue?”
Lan Xichen does not say any of these things. He says, “A-Yao, will you marry me? If we both survive the war, will you marry me?”

Lan Xichen proposes before the war. Somehow, through the property of transitivity, Wei Wuxian becomes Meng Yao’s problem to solve.
