The argument continues on in the background, but everything sounds so muffled, jumbled in Shouto’s head. Frost coats his fingertips as those words repeat over and over again.
How sad.
There was no doubt in Shouto’s mind, hearing those words now.

“What the fuck is that?” he manages, though the answer is pretty fucking clear.
Hawks looks down and his face lights up, as if he’s just now remembering his passenger. “Oh! She is a baby. Surely you’ve seen one before.”
He bounces a bit on the tips of his toes and the baby giggles, delightedly kicking out her arms and legs. Hawks smiles, a hand coming up protectively around her front, as if she’s going to slip out of the thing, despite the fact that she’s strapped in there tighter than a mental patient in a straitjacket.

Dabi had made peace with his impending death. Or so he thought, before the past comes crashing into his hospital room with a passenger in tow and the promise of a fresh start.

Summary
