He thought about his home, he thought about what awaited him. He thought about Diamond's mission he gave him recently, he thought about Opal's words he said to him this past week. He thought about Ratio and how he would explain their future mission, how he would explain anything from that. He thought about all of this and nothing at all, and eventually, his body and subconscious found their way back on their own, even if Aventurine didn’t remember any of it.
Somehow, he found himself on the threshold of Ratio's house, and his mind cleared. It became easier to breathe.
And now, Aventurine listens to the steady heartbeat, leaning on Ratio's chest until he decides to break the peaceful silence. "It was raining today."
"Indeed, it was."

When the IPC’s newest Stoneheart drags Ratio along on a debt case seemingly for no reason other than his own amusement, Ratio wastes no time adding Aventurine to the list of people he’d strangle if it wouldn’t jeopardize his career. Upon their arrival on Xin-41, however, Ratio begrudgingly deems his contempt for the planet’s intellectual oligarchy stronger than his contempt for his insufferable colleague. Even more begrudgingly, he finds himself drawn in by the web of mysteries lurking not just within the Slinkans’ ivory tower, but within the depths of Aventurine’s dangerously inscrutable mind.
Through deadly equations, volatile spices, and the ‘warning’ of a brutalized corpse left out under the summer sun, Xin-41’s insolvency reveals itself as something deeply sinister, with threads tying back to the early days of the IPC... and to one of the Intelligentsia Guild’s most infamous scholars.

He brings up a valid point, and Veritas is unable to refute it. “Do tell, Gambler, if you’ve already figured it out, why are we bantering like this?” Veritas replies dryly.
“Hmm… I don’t know, maybe I have the wrong idea. Do tell, Doctor, why did you call me?” There’s a certain playfulness to his voice, and it prickles into his skin.
“I…” Veritas squeezes his eyes shut. It’s absolutely infuriating, just how physically aroused Veritas feels from the mere sound of his voice.
“Doctor… Don’t tell me I’ve taken your breath away? I haven’t even done anything yet.”
“Quiet.” Veritas snaps, flushing. “I was gathering my thoughts.”

Now that gets Aventurine's attention. “Any size and shape? Then… can you put it in me, doctor?”
"I... What?"
"The expanding function just reminded me of those inflatable dildos that have grown a bit popular recently. You can put it in you while it’s still small, then pump it so that it gets bigger and bigger. I was thinking your chalk could do the same.”
Or: Ratio has expanding robotic chalk. Aventurine makes the most of it.

Little Kakavasha had quickly grown out of that mindset, when he saw his people being massacred. Stress and having his first heat forcefully triggered had made him feral, and alphas showing interest at him only made his skin crawl.
