To be frank, Flame had gotten too used to the constant praise and admiration everywhere he went. So imagine his surprise when a new transferee barges into his life and has the guts to speak up against his cockiness. You'd get whiplash from it too, no?
Naturally, Lomedy's dismissive attitude drew him in. It made Flame want to find out more; why doesn't Lomedy care about his looks, his status, or even his money?
Or: What happens when you show a man with an ego through the roof to a scholar, who judges not based on looks or status, but how someone acts around others? Will their differences help or break their relationship?
Or, or: Lomedy plays hard to get, but Flame's just a desperate puppy for him.

So what if his technique is all wrong?! That's the point of training in the first place! For being such a strong and powerful player, Flame had given zero actual advice on how to actually hone his skills.
Swinging swords wasn't any different from tilling soil, right? It's the same action with different tools.
Or, Flame attempts to sabotage Lomedy and tries to prevent him from learning combat for thr better. But like the good boy he is, he still surrenders in the end.

Silently, he thinks of what could've happened between them if he wasn't so stuck up all the time. Would Flame like him better if he was as forward like Wemmbu? Brave and serene like Jaden, if he held the same values as them, if he could help Flame grow his combat skills.
Maybe if he actually picked up a sword instead of a hoe, he'd actually have a place in Flame's hand. Cause that was just the reality, right? Flame is drawn to men who can wield maces and tridents and can actually defend themselves under a threat.
Or: what if a "friends with benefits" situation blossoms into a messy mix of feelings that both parties refuse to acknowledge and only end up hurting eachother due to it. Will they finally confront their feelings or let everything spiral into a bigger mess?

Flame felt his eyes sting then tears drip down to his cheeks, wetting his blindfold. This wasn't what he wanted for his best friend, he needed warmth, comfort and protection, whatever Flame could give, not this. Not forced down to take a bandit right Infront of him.
If only he was better, only if he was smart enough to not leave Lomedy at home completely defenceless to any outsider. Flame could only watch the assault on his best friend, watch his own best friend, his lover get assaulted by a stranger.
Tl;dr: Flame fails to protect his best friend. He's forrced to watch the consequences of his actions.
