    Steve glanced down at himself, his face immediately flushing, even as he shook his head in denial.

    “I’m not dressed up.”

    “Yeah, you are.” She paused a beat, frowning thoughtfully before adding, “And you’re wearing cologne, new cologne.”

    “This is my regular cologne, and these are my regular clothes,” he insisted, chin jutting out stubbornly, but Natasha just laughed.

    “Sure, except that’s new cologne, and those are definitely new clothes,” she replied, evenly. “And I really only mentioned it in the first place to make conversation, because campus is dead and I’m bored, but since you seem hell bent on lying about it—

    “I’m not lying.”

    “— now I’m really curious. So, what’s the occasion, Rogers?”

     

    Or: Steve has loved Sam for a long time. Now maybe he’s finally ready to do something about it.
