Click.A faint mechanical whirr. A slight stutter of static. Then, the feed kicks in—blurry at first, then clearer. The frame jitters with movement.
“Is it on?”
Tap. Tap.
“Did it work? Hello? Hellooo—oh! Oh, it’s working!”
A young, excited voice, tinged with mechanical undertones: subtle clicks and low shutter-whirrs riding beneath every syllable. The view swings wildly before settling on a dim interior—homey, metal-paneled walls, a low-hanging vine of bioluminescent Protector Root glowing faintly in the corner.
“Keph? Is everything alright?” his mother called from somewhere off-screen, her tone edged with worry—a sharp contrast to the sheer delight blooming in Keph’s chest.
He could feel the new system stirring to life within him.
