Summary
The ninja all grieved Zane after his sacrifice.
Kai’s methods weren’t healthy. Fighting away night after night in the pit. Because it should have been him. The thought stayed with him. Consumed him.
He’d wanted it to stop. And it did. His grief left him. But so did everything else.
When the ninja do finally begin to reach out to one another, Kai is gone. And when they seek to find Zane, their brother they thought dead on the island, they find yet another brother they hadn’t known was so far gone.
TLDR: Kai has amnesia during the tournament of elements and ends up working for Chen :)

Summary
The plan was simple - fool Chen, break his staff, put him in prison and enjoy another day in Ninjago as its heros. Where things went wrong? Kai still tries to lodge the cause in his mind. Maybe it was the betrayal, or the kidnapping. Perhaps the lack of communication, or really just his villainous side coming to life. Among many things and people nothing was certain for more than few days. But he had to keep moving.
Or a rewrite of s4 that blooms into a what-if Kai abandonded ninjas and instead became a vigilante. (In my mind, it's a long-shot)

The first time he had ever met the Fire Lord in person- all those tales, leading up to this man. Then again, Lloyd had envisioned a meeting where he burst into the Palace with his friends, easily defeated the ruler of the Realm and saved Kai, preferably making it home in time for tea.
Alas, things don’t always work out the way you’d like them to. Lloyd should have expected this. He was a ninja, after all. Either way, the dragon's kidnapping had culminated in a very uncomfortable dragging into the throne room, faced with this Lord.

The man shifted in his seat, no longer lounging. His red eyes behind the mask sparkled in curiosity.

(A Kai antihero/villain fic in which he stuck to his original convictions and didn’t ever truly become a ninja. Morro comes along and finds an explosive amount of potential in what he believes is a kindred and powerful spirit. Chaos ensues. A lot of mess and explored dynamics, along with a healthy dose of nuancing current character point I either felt were under-discussed or thought would be fun additions. Hope you enjoy!)

What if it was too late, when someone has their eyes one a certain someone to take their place. All he ever wanted is the new Dragon Lord to bring chaos in Ninjago, and what better way than have a certain spellcaster to embedded a cursed crystal from the Staff of Element on the person chest.Kai is loyal to a fault, but it became his downfall when he hears humming and sweeter whispering of his favorite tune from childhood. His mind is getting skewed up and doesn't know what's right or what's the right memories to have compare to fakes.

While the siblings try to reunite, Cole and the rest of the team discover things about Kai they wouldn't be able to any other way.
Will they be able to rescue their fire master and if they do, will he come back unscathed?
