Kai shivered, looking at the rising water just outside the window. Earlier, he heard Nya talking to Benthomaar about.. Nyad. He knew that look in her eyes. She would do something stupid. She would follow Nyad's steps. It was to save Jay, one of his boyfriends, but he still shouldn't let it happen. What kind of big brother would he be if he just... gave up? He sighed. When should he stop her? Now, that she was sleeping? No. Too early, he still needs a plan. Maybe he could think of a plan right now and do it while she slept. Yes.
Nya is a water elemental, so was their mom. If they can do it, why can't he try to? He would try. He didn't really have a plan. Kai wasn't exactly the best at... you know, math, physics, chemistry, those things... he had to use the little money he got to feed Nya and allow her to go to school while he was working. But he knew that water could evaporate with fire that was hot enough. Maybe he could try to reach out to his true potential. Try to make the water evaporate. Maybe he could do that, or at least try.
Kai sighed, silently opening the door of the apartment and getting out, closing it gently. As he got up the stairs, all he could think of was Nya. He kept remembering those times when it was only the two of them. Nya's eyes when she saw him with a new scar almost everyday, her stern look when he didn't take off his binder, her relaxed face after he put her to sleep. And then he started thinking of Lloyd, when he was just a tiny brat that needed help with everything. He could remember comforting him because of Garmadon, sleeping with him because Lloyd kept having nightmares, helping him bandage himself after missions. And then his boyfriends. They were all amazing. All dear to him. The time they all danced with Cole to get a Fangblade. The time they helped Zane's father. The time they saved Jay during Prime Empire. When they all helped Kai himself get his powers back when Aspheera stole them. He loved them.
The next thing he saw was the edge of the building. He had to do this. He breathed in, closing his eyes. Trying to not take everything back, he jumped. When he fell in the water, his body started fighting to keep him warm, as it was the middle of the night and he just fell on deep water. He let out the breath he was holding and snapped his eyes open as they started to glow a vivid orange. He let his true potential come to him, as hot as ever. The the water around him started to evaporate, vapor rising, but he could feel it, his fire wasn't enough. So he gritted his teeth and put more energy into it, soon the fire surrounding him becoming lava. It spread around him, almost like he had a tail. The water kept sizzling and the vapor rising, until the lava started to harden. "Fuck." was all he could think before it became rock. He was stuck, he thought, but then his element started to fight again. Everything started to hurt and he yelled out in pain. The rock started to crack, letting bits of lava escape. His body was changing, becoming one with the rock. His skin was sizzling softly, getting stuck with the hard outer layer of the lava. Kai could only handle about 700 °C, and lava was much hotter than that. The rock around his face shifted into a snout, opening with his shouts of pain. Slowly, the pain faded. His veins felt like they were on fire. His back opened and lava flowed out of it like a fin, staying in place but not hardening to rock. The stone around his chest breaked completely and the stone around his arms breaked only partially, leaving paths of stone that almost looked like snakes curling around him. The rock around his scalp fell apart, letting his hair out. When Kai let his eyes finally get used to the water, he noticed he wasn't drowning. When he looked down at himself, he noticed he looked like a serpentine. But now his fire was stronger, his chest burned hotter. When he looked up, the sun was starting to shine.
Nya panicked when she woke up and didn't see her brother.
"Kai?!"
She gasped out, looking around the apartment as her gasp woke up some of the ninja.
"Nya? What's wrong?"
Zane gently asked, grabbing her shoulder and looking into her eyes.
"Kai! He's gone! I can't find that idiot!"
"Fuck! Did he leave during the night?"
Cole jumped from his spot, practically running up to the door and shoving it open. Maybe Kai went out to get some air! As he ran up the stairs, he could hear some of the ninja behind him. He looked around the roof of the building.
"Kai?!"
Cole yelled out to the nothing, looking around, that is until he heard Wojira roaring.
"Fuck! Cole, did you wake her up?!"
Lloyd said, running up the stairs. But he was wrong. There was a lot of vapor rising all around Wojira as she tried to claw at the nothing, splashing water everywhere. Underwater, there was an orange glow swimming around her, steam rising from where it swam.
"What's that..?"
Benthomaar asked quietly, now pushing Lloyd and Cole aside gently. He never saw anything like that, until the thing swam up and jumped out of the water. It was almost like a sea serpent, but with a human torso.
"Is that Kai?"
Nya whispered. She would always recognize his scars, no matter what. She was the one that helped Kai treat them.
"Fuck! Kai, come back here!"
Nya yelled, preparing to jump into the water to reach Kai. Kai could hear her, taking his new senses into account, but he ignored it. He climbed Wojira, going all up to her forehead, burying his claws into the scaly skin. He closed his mouth, but teeth and snout still stuck into a snarl. He let his Endothermic Bellows open, allowing the toxic gas that is stored in it to fill his mouth, and then grinding his Pyroclast Fangs together to create a spark, filling his mouth with fire. He tilted his head to the amulet on Wojira's forehead and opened his mouth, letting a beam of white fire burn her scales. He pulled on her scales with his claws. His veins and chest were burning even hotter now and his eyes glowed. Wojira was starting to roar and struggle, the heat getting to her. The fire was too hot, burning the amulet on her forehead and her forehead itself. She opened her mouth to struggle and roar, but Kai was faster, shooting fire inside her mouth with the goal of cooking her from inside out. Her chest started to glow orange, spreading slowly across her body, until it got brighter and brighter. Kai grinned and jumped for her forehead, diving deep down as Wojira exploded with a roar, the sheer heat of it all pushing the water away and turning a good chunk of the water that covered the city into steam. The water retreated and retreated, slowly going back to the ocean. Kai followed it, not wanting to risk getting stuck on land. He could feel instincts tugging at his brain, memories slowly fading. The water left on the city was few, enough that Nya could easily use her elemental powers to put it back in the ocean.
He poked his head out of the water, looking at the beach, and that was when he saw them. His team. And Jay was okay. The heat was enough to turn the water in his lungs into vapor, he supposed. They were all looking at him, and he just tilted his head, instincts getting stronger.
"Kai?"
Nya said softly, reaching a hand out to him. He let out a soft click-like sound, looking at her.
"Hey, Nya. Lloyd. I'm sorry, buddies. I had to do this. What kind of big brother would I be if I let my little sister sacrifice herself?"
He smiled with his new sharp teeth, his new extra four fangs made out of pyrite glowing a bit on the sunlight.
"I'm... sorry, okay? I love you all. Really."
He turned around and dived. He heard the shouts behind him, but he never tugged back, already dragged too deep into instincts.
the yellow and bigger teeth are the teeth i talked about! made out of pyrite to spark! the organ that looks like a lung is the one that holds toxic gas to light fire, while the other is a storage for fuel to keep the fire going!!
