II says, “Well, it's two to a room this time,” in a tone that snaps Vessel back to the present and makes him think he should already know that answer. It was likely part of the spiel that he'd missed out on while he was busy being swept out to sea by the sunshine shimmer in II's eyes.

“So we're bunking together, Three and Ivy will be in the next room over...?” Vessel hazards a guess, and to his gladness II nods.

When II carefully adds, “It'll be kind of like old times,” audible to Vessel and no one else, and quieter still, “just you and me,” it's as effective as crushing fingertips into Vessel's jugular, constricting the veins that connect his head to his heart.
    ____________

Or: the band takes a surprise pit stop in a small desert town on their way through New Mexico, and II and Vessel don't let a heatwave stop them from taking advantage of the rare opportunity for privacy.

“Oh, fuck this. You’re a fucking headcase, mate!”

Vessel pushed forward, lip shooting from a frustrated grimace to a full-on snarl, “you shut the fuck up—”

“No! No,” their guitarist rattled. “If you care so much about- about fucking infranotes or whatever the fuck else no one can hear but you, you can play your own bloody guitar!”

With a jabbing finger and his piece said, their Fourth was stomping out, slamming the door and the band shut behind him with enough force to rattle the picture frames.

Condemning them to yet another hunt for a guitarist.

    Grand. Just grand.

“I think it's fucking uncanny,” III continued. “Better than some guys I’ve seen.”

“Let me see properly,” II said, curious, shrugging when III gave him a filthy look. II held out his hand again, and he narrowed his eyes toward the cracked screen until the image became clearer.

It was a really fucking good cosplay. Vessel’s mask finely painted, green cape with gold binding stitched just as neatly as his own. Even the model’s mouth was similar, wide but thin. Maybe a little thinner across the shoulders. His eyes slipped down further and, yeah, okay. Black skin, delicate gold chains and a black lace bra melting softly into her skin with the minute difference in shade.

Beside him, Vessel had frozen. Rigid with his chest barely rising and falling. So silent ever since III had shown him the image. II’s eyes slipped to Vessel’s hands clenched on his lap, before he looked at the screen one more time.

“Great costume,” II said. III blinked at him, as if he couldn’t work out why he wasn’t playing along. “But I’ve got the real thing to lust over.”

He was there. He was on the footbridge, turning to look back at the station over his shoulder.

Nobody batted an eye as he walked along the tracks. A railway worker in a hi vis jacket even nodded to him when he chanced a glance up. Then he simply took the stairs and now there he was.

He had checked the platform clock when he passed it. The train should have been almost there by now.
