Summary
And later, when he's standing on the Normandy's landing ramp watching Anderson run back into the burning city, the Reapers landing in the destroyed remains, evacuation shuttles blowing up in the sky, the dog tags in his fist cutting harshly into the skin on his palm as he refuses the stinging in his eyes... he leans back into Kaidan until their shoulders knock and the man says "it's okay".
Or, that time I got irritated at the lack of emotion in every MShep/Kaidan cutscene and rewrote them all.

“You did say you wanted to spend some time alone together,” Shepard offers. The surveillance camera in the corner of the room doesn’t count as company. “We’re alone; we’re not currently being shot at. Hell, I’d say the date is going pretty well, all things considered.” He’s even wearing something that closely resembles formalwear. Maybe that’s where they’re going wrong. Every time they try and squeeze in a little time for themselves, they forego body armor, and someone inevitably tries to murder them.
Kaidan tugs his wrists to draw Shepard’s attention to the chains holding him in a mirrored position across the room. “This,” he says, the curve of his eyebrows supported entirely by his irritation, “is not exactly what I had in mind.”
No, Kaidan wanted dinner. Soft music. Nice, normal date stuff. Not…whatever the fuck this is.

The elevator started moving almost silently. Only after they went up over three floors did Stiles remember that he had to punch the button for his floor too.
He flailed to do so, not even really caring about the impression he was leaving on the anonymous Suit Dude. Work drained him to the point of not caring about anything.
It was a tall building, so the journey was long, but the silence wasn't awkward. Or maybe it was; again, Stiles was past the point of caring.
Or at least he had been, until the Suit Dude suddenly spoke.
"Okay," he said quietly. "I love you."
Oh. Well. What?!
Stiles whipped his head to look at the guy, but the man wasn't looking at him.
“Uuuhhh…” Stiles stammered. “I love you too?”

She’s over ten feet tall, with gray-green leathery skin and a plump, yellow belly, bright purple eyes and an ungainly wingspan that makes her topple when she spreads them open too wide.
In the time it takes for the dragon to bury her too-warm muzzle in the palm of his hand, Stiles knows he wants to spend the rest of his life with her.
Her handler is gruff, dark-haired, wide-shouldered, and scowling down at him. He’s got a burn scar running down the outside of one forearm, and the flight vest open at his throat reveals an angry red claw mark on his collarbone.
Stiles maybe falls a little bit in love with him, too.
