It was three minutes until Lambert’s break, on day five of one of the most hellish weeks of the year. Black Friday weekend was the absolute fucking worst, and Lambert couldn’t wait for his day off. He was counting down the seconds to his lunch break too, desperate to get away from the assholes of the general public.
Three minutes until he could leave the shop floor without his managers getting on his case about it, but before his countdown could get any lower, he heard a disconcerting sound. There was a child crying nearby.
Lambert finds a kid lost in his store. The kid's father happens to be hot as hell. This is not a problem. (This is a major problem.)

The entire world had been their oyster. She had just started her big job as a marketing intern for a company that supplied vaccines to the world and he had managed to find himself a desk job at an accountancy firm, somewhere his brain for numbers could be put to good use. They had drawn up plans to see the world, make it their bitch. Nothing had seemed out of reach.
But then the years had begun to slide by–Christmas parties, weddings, work meetings–and that promise to see the world slid away with them. Sure, Kiera went away a lot for work–she had a bag packed semi-permanently so she could be in Paris, or Florence, or Dubai, at the drop of a suspiciously-priced Saint Laurent beret–but Lambert felt permanently anchored to the washed-out concrete of these streets.
Lambert is stumbling through life without a clear direction. He doesn't know who he is, or what he wants, only that he's fucking lost. A chance meeting at a party leads him to confront the truth of his situation, and with the support of his family and a new presence in his life, Lambert sets out to find the man he has buried deep to protect him from a world he believed would never accept him.

“Where are we going?” Gaetan asked, sometime around noon. His voice was rough with disuse, almost as bad as Eskel’s had been after his first year back on the Path after his face was mauled.
“Toussaint,” Lambert replied, not even looking back at the Cat. “Figured I’d dump you at Geralt’s vineyard, now that he’s got one of those. He left you alive, so I figure the least he can do is take responsibility for you.”
When Lambert is offered the Law of Surprise in payment for a contract, he doesn't expect to find himself responsible for a Cat.
