Summary
[January, 1778]
John had felt on edge ever since, his bed felt as though it were ice with how cold it'd become without Hamilton's presence, perhaps colder with his return to be never. No. Hamilton had survived escaping the ambush at Schuylkill, if his obstinacy could exceed death herself then, then illness could never be the fatal hands of his doom — Or at least, that is what Laurens filled his head with as pathetic consolation.
(Or; Hamilton has fallen ill while out in Albany, the camp panics if they'll ever see their dear friend once more.)

[January, 1778]
While encampment had been a grievous affliction, Laurens had found other pests of sentiments that chewed at his heart — For winter was cold, it was even colder without a certain redhead to keep him warm with his joyous smile to beam every morning.
(Or; Hamilton has left to return with troops, but leaves John behind in sorrow, though it awakens some unforseen thoughts with the guidance of their good friend Meade)

"R-Right, uh, Baron Von Steuben is hosting a party of sorts. You and Hamilton are some of the very few invited." Pierre is swift in looking at the distance without much focus as to what specifically, but rather to avoid the sight of the other bashfully. Though his hand arises to reveal a letter in his fidgeting palm, pointing it in Laurens' direction for the taking.
"Of sorts? Who else is invited?" He takes the letter briefly examining it, but to his disappointment, it is just parchment folded and sealed with wax. Lacking any proper mailing acquisitions like the owner, address, or person to gift it to. Though John supposes it wouldn't be needed if Pierre was assigned to give them out to a select few. It still unnerved him.
"If you attend, you will see,"
(Or; the iconic "pantless party" ensures)

[February, 1778]
With fiery determination being the only inner flame that warmed them during this unethical winter camp. Even men as young as seventeen grieved with more than what they were ever deserving. Or perhaps if you were the generals’ son, a frail twenty-year-old, too slim for his age, as he appeared like a teen at best.

Summary
[February, 1778]
Washington had ridden out with a few men to go and greet Von Steuben before his official entry. When he had returned, he was in a knot of emotions that he hadn't quite properly correlated to the aides despite their queries — Whatever had left the general so mystified was unbeknownst to them all, but they hadn't prodded further when he lastly didn't even acknowledge one of their questions. Afterward, they'd decided it must have just been a long day. Though Hamilton and Laurens remained weary of the man all the same.
(Or; the gay man finally arrives, bringing hopes and worries for Laurens and hamilton)

[October, 1777]
Wishes of being moderate fell upon the deaf ears of drunken men slashing jugs and shots about, foaming beer splashing like rain — It is a true mess, but none bother as they sing jolly songs, along with the fiddle and violin performing in resound.
The saloon is small, it isn't helped with the haphazard floundering of the crowd dancing around like laggards. With the thunderous chants being enough to bring deafness — Who is to care when the aides are just as wasted?
(Or; the aides celebrate a victory in the comforts of getting recklessly drunk. Too drunk when your Alexander Hamilton, and cant resist a good bar fight.)

[August-September, 1777]
Had Laurens known taking the position of a volunteer aide would curse him forevermore with the arrogant aristocrat, that was Hamilton — He might have had stronger doubts alongside his protests.
For what he expected was jaunty raillery at first had incited into resentment, and every day he was subject to the competition of pestering when he would see the redhead trot about.
(Orrr; Laurens and Hamilton weren't always the best of pals, as a bitter resentment was the original bond that intertwined them)

[February, 1778]
"You're nervous, aren't you." It isn't a question, no matter how Washington had phrased it. It was an observation he made vocally, as he had found himself distracted by his boy's fidgeting.
"Anyone would be," is all Alexander mutters about, as he kicks some sleet; in a third attempt of making his still stature more or else endurable. How pitifully useless it was.
The nervous wreck wasn't undeserved, as they were currently waiting outside the Potts mansion for Lady Washington to arrive.
(Or; Martha is visiting valley forge, and Alexander is wrecked to have to come face to face to his mother he had worried sick)

" 'It is my deepest, yet only, regret to inform you of the casualty that is-'..." Washington swallows as if he has to take in the information physically. Marquis and John gape with tension, the other men barely creaking their seats as they lean forward; trying to capture every drop of detail. " 'Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Hamilton's disappearance'..."
(Or; the infamous Schuylkill incident.)

[February, 1778]
“With that in mind, I find our tale to be more fitting for Achilles and Patroclus.” Hamilton hums bluntly. He speaks with such casual openness ridden of shame or morality—It appears as lacking humanity even. Alexander sees the effect, and distantly appreciates the other’s education in Greek to read his intent—Yet, John is not. As he is too stunned from the profession, he delays his step.
What Hamilton had just suggested. No. it couldn't.
“Don’t you, John?”
(Or; John and Alexander finally profess their love for each other, but it will take more to break the bonds that forbid their desire.)

[January-February 1778]
“Sir,” Hamilton began, and if his tone was anything of respectful, John wouldn’t have felt such a hidden need to quickly clamp a palm over his out-spoken mouth. “If we are to make do with a less than ideal situation. You could just accept my proposal for myself to accompany-”
“I see no point in the matter, Hamilton,” Washington dismissed with a cold warning. His eyes never lifted from the letters he held, but it was clear the hardened glare was not directed towards the parchment. “You are an aide de camp and a direly needed one here.”
Alexander felt more infuriated as the conversation grew to a dispute. He was done playing shy and pleading, he would show his Excellency he would be a better fit for a command—And his fatherly affections would not interfere.
(Or; a father and son dispute ensures when Hamilton is fed up with Washington's protection.)

[October, 1777]
"If you were going to rob me of my affections, without my consent of where I carefully place those reserved sentiments," Hamilton said, sighing with some releasement of his tense heat. and now his fists came to slow halt, leaving the man's arm half unbandaged—As if he had to focus completely on what judicious metaphors he was to describe his tremors as, "Then you may do me some justice, Sir, and take heed to your well being as to not play with my emotions like the fiddle."
Laurens wasn't sure what the man was talking about until it settled in like a broken dam, suddenly the flood of thoughts bombarded his head that he couldn't correlate a proper response to the confession. It hadn't made much sense until now, and now Laurens realized the severity of his idiocy. Hamilton had cared about him more than he let on...
(Orr; lams moment with hamilton scolding his stupid crush and begging him not to die because he loves him too much no homo though)

[August, 1777]
"You are John Laurens, yes?" The short man tacked on, phrasing it like it was a question, but he was clearly trying to catch John’s attention back to reality.
"Aye- I mean yes- yes, I am." John fastened as he regained consciousness. He felt his cheeks warm as that pale boy arched one of his red brows at the informality.
"John Laurens of South Carolina, pleased to make your acquaintance."
He extended out an awaiting hand—hoping his slip up would be disregarded—and tried to regain some balance in his professionalism.
"Likewise," Luckily, the man didn't comment on it any further, as he returned the hand gesture with a firm grip. "Lieutenant Colonel, Alexander Hamilton, at your humblest service."
(Or: John enlists in the army. He expects all but a unique handsome man, and a flamboyant french lad to make him feel so welcomed in odd ways, as he is assigned as an aide volunteer.)

Summary
[March, 1777]
It wasn't until he recognized a certain Captain Hamilton digging a trench as his young Alexander Washington.
Frankly, he hadn't considered the captain all too much, with the last name being one of his mother's true husband — it never sparked notice to the man, as he had busied himself with the work of a general and never had thoughts anywhere else. Or at least, that was until he saw those iconic freckled cheeks and natural red swirls that sprung from his queue.
(Or; Alexander was refrained from joining the army, so he runs away with a fake persona. although that act doesn't last long as washington finds out his boy was behind the captain title all along.)
