Summary
Xie Lian knew she couldn't hide things from her wife, so when Hua Cheng presented her with a special box a few hours after dinner, she wasn't too surprised.
She coughed and cleared her throat, averting her eyes to feign ignorance: “Oh, San Niang, is this a gift for me?”
Hua Cheng knew that she was just trying to save face, but didn't make it any easier for her, her lips curled and she tilted her head: “You could say that. But it was one of our wedding gifts.”
“Is it?” Ahh, San Niang! Stop talking about it, please! She was terribly embarrassed. Her fingers curled around the edge of the table, while with her other hand she tidied her bangs, seemingly unconcerned.
“Mm. But the funny thing is…” Hua Cheng nonchalantly crossed her legs and reached across the table to caress the edges of the box with her slender fingers. “It was hidden, deep, deep among all the junk we were given.”
“Wow, that's strange.” Xie Lian watched her actions closely, her eyes following those fingers that had become experts at so many things in such a short time.
“It is.” Hua Cheng stopped and her fingers curled around the lid of the box. “Jiejie knows what's inside, doesn't she?”
