His vision was swimming in front of him, only adding to the horrible dizziness of his mind. When he finally gets his bearings, he looks down at his hand.

He wasn’t using the baby-talk voice that most people used with him. He wasn’t speaking to Hitoshi like he was stupid or hard of hearing. He spoke to him like…like he was a person.
“I won’t hurt you.” Hitoshi whispered, his voice rough and broken from not being used for days. “Not unless you hurt me first.”
They stared at each other, neither blinking or moving for several seconds before the man turned his attention to the worker. “Draw up the paperwork, I’ll take him.”
