After not speaking to Sam for a few weeks — ever since he messed up — you find yourself having to swallow your anger and call him for help anyway.
The motel room door slammed shut behind you with a hollow thud that rattled the cheap frame. You’d driven the last forty miles with one hand clamped over the ragged tear in your abdomen, fingers slick with blood, trying to keep your liver from spilling out onto the car’s dashboard like some grotesque party trick. Every pothole sent fresh fire through your ribs.
You slid down the wall beside the bed, back against the peeling wallpaper, and let your head thunk back. The room smelled like mildew and old cigarettes. Your vision kept tunneling — black at the edges, narrowing to a hazy pinprick. No blood bags left. The cooler in the trunk was empty.
You should’ve gone in alone on that hunt. But after three weeks of Sam and Dean laid up at Bobby’s, you’d needed to hit something that wasn’t Sam’s face.
Your phone was slippery in your bloody palm. You stared at the screen until the contacts blurred, thumb hovering over Sam’s name. You’d sworn you wouldn’t call. Not after Colorado.
